I received a telephone call this morning at 9:15 AM from Janet Ravenkamp.
Her husband of 25 years and 2 days was taken off life support at 10:26 PM, Thursday March 15, 2001
and after only three breaths passed on into the next life from complications from Acute Myelogenous Leukemia.
A long term condition that was not diagnosed until a year ago.
John Ravenkamp was 50 years of age. Born in Salina, Kansas in 1950 second into a family of 9 children.
John joined the Navy in 1969 on a 120 day deferred program and entered active service in April of 1970.
John Ravenkamp STSCS(SS) served aboard the USS Gato SSN 615; USS Flasher SSN 613; USS Permit SSN 594
and the USS William H. Bates SSN 680. John also did a stint at the ASW facility at Ballast Point, San Diego, CA.
John retired from the Navy and joined the Fleet Marine in July of 1990 and went to work at the Puget Sound Naval
Shipyard at Bremerton, WA. His job was to cut up the submarines he loved so much. John told me on Wednesday
that if he had it all to do over again he wouldn't do anything different.
John is survived by his wife Janet. By his children; Heather, Royce, Ashley and Crystal and 2 grand children
Anthony and Chrissa. Sisters and brother; Linda, Margie, Jim, Mary, Cindy, Trease, Judy and Anna.
